The Reading Rush 2020 TBR

by Kailia Sage, July 20, 2020
I didn't think I'd be participating in The Reading Rush this year but my circumstances has left me with more time to read as much as I want. The read-a-thon is going to run from July 20-July 26, 2020. They have 7 reading challenges (listed below) and Booktube and Instagram challenges. I'm only going to be doing the reading challenges.

You can earn badges for completing challenges and other activities and I'm excited to give it a go.

1/ Read a book with a cover that matches the color of your birth stone.

Love Me Forever by Johanna Lindsey
The birthstone for April babies is diamonds so I decided to go for something white/silver/shiny.
I remember getting this book a few weeks ago from a second hand bookstore so this was my first choice. I never realized how hard this prompt was going to be when your birthstone is clear.

2/ Read a book that starts with the word “The”.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
My library hold came in just in time for this book so I’m beyond excited to give it a go. I’ve heard so many mixed things about this book so I’m nervous to give it a go. This will probably be my first read as it is the longest and I want to get it out of the way.

3/ Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve already seen.

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein
I decided to read the Lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit before I decided to participate in the reading rush. And when I looked at all of the props, I noticed that it would fit perfectly with his goal. I absolutely love Lord of the rings and I definitely want to read the hobbit before I delve into that trilogy. This will be my first time reading anything by Tolkein so I am both excited and nervous.

4/ Read the first book you touch.

A Daring Arrangement by Johanna Shoupe
A little while before I lost my job I went to a secondhand bookstore where I found a bunch of historical romances. So I put all of the mass-market paperback I had together and took out the first book I touched. I am really glad that this is the one that I chose because this will be my first book by this author and it is the first book in the series. I’m one of those weird people that has read books in order in the series so I appreciate that I’m not starting mid way through.

5/ Read a book completely outside of your house.

There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon
I appreciate that there has been so much flexibility when it comes to this prompt. Aside from the pandemic, I have also developed an eye infection that is slowly getting better. I am going to be sitting on my porch reading this book and I could not be more excited.

6/ Read a book in a genre that you’ve always wanted to read more of.

Homicide in Hardcover by Kate Carlysile
I thought about adding a thriller to this stat but I really was not in the mood for that. However, I really do enjoy mysteries and I realize that I don’t read enough of them. I really like the sound of the first book and my library has quite a few in the series on Libby so it’s a win-win.

7/ Read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.

A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare
I’m not sure if I’ve ever talked about how much I love Tessa dare and her work but I love Tessa dare and her historical romances. My library finally had a digital copy of the book available and I snatched it up. Like a lot of historical romances that I read, this is set in England so it is a completely different continent than mine.
