I thought I'd share some reviews for a few weeks that I've read recently. I have reviews for a few series going on in the next few weeks but wanted something to tide the blog over before then.

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did when I read it several years ago. It's a New Adult sports romance so its a category of romance books that I don't go near. But enough people raved about this series that I caved and got the first one. And boy am I glad that I did. Not only did I love all of the characters, I loved the plot, the romance and just about everything else there was. The Deal is funny and sweet and romantic. It's an exceptionally quick read, even at 342 pages, because the pacing for the story is so fast.

Even though this story is a romance, I found that Garret and Hannah budding friendship was just as important. Even before they're attracted to each other--sure they find each other attractive--they became friends first. I think this is the best kind of slow burn: two people who become friends, lay their boundaries, and then slowly fall in love. This entire structure led me to smiling throughout the story and really rooting for both of them. On top of that, I really appreciated how much Garret and the author took the time to care about Hannah. None of her hesitations or reservations were mocked or belittled but thought through.

In the end, I'm probably going to re-read the entire series, and I'm so glad I was able to delve back into this story.

Full disclosure before I begin this review: I do not really read thrillers so this was already a genre/book that I would not normally pick up. That said, I’m a huge fan of the movie and I had wanted to pick up the book for a long time. I figured that April would be the best time to do that because I needed this for my magical read-athon prompt. But I am so disappointed that I had to wait over half way through this book before it got good.

I read this and I listened to it as an audiobook and I hated my entire experience. The beginning was stuffy and boring and I really could not care less about these characters. Why am I spending so much time reading about rich white people and their problems??? I’m sorry that you have to go from one huge mansion to a smaller mansion because that’s really the worst thing that could happen in your life!!!

It wasn’t until a little over 50% that the pace of this book picked up, the plot got twisty, and I ended up really enjoying the characters. Mind you, I still hated both Nick and Amy but I actually enjoyed reading about them. A lot of people have said that if you love the movie you might not love the book and I wasn’t sure how true that was until now. If I’m very honest if you liked the movie I would skip the book. Experiencing the movie first really changes how you feel about the book in my opinion and it’s not for the better.
