I have yet another series review for you guys. I have loved this series since I first read it years ago and as I recently re-read this series, I thought I should finally share my thoughts on the books! Not only is the writing really great, but the characters are also amazing. I love the world that Anne Bishop has created.

Etched in Bone | Anne Bishop | The Others #5
Source: Library
New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop returns to her world of the Others, as humans struggle to survive in the shadow of shapeshifters and vampires far more powerful than themselves…

After a human uprising was brutally put down by the Elders—a primitive and lethal form of the Others—the few cities left under human control are far-flung. And the people within them now know to fear the no-man’s-land beyond their borders—and the darkness…

As some communities struggle to rebuild, Lakeside Courtyard has emerged relatively unscathed, though Simon Wolfgard, its wolf shifter leader, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn must work with the human pack to maintain the fragile peace. But all their efforts are threatened when Lieutenant Montgomery’s shady brother arrives, looking for a free ride and easy pickings.

With the humans on guard against one of their own, tensions rise, drawing the attention of the Elders, who are curious about the effect such an insignificant predator can have on a pack. But Meg knows the dangers, for she has seen in the cards how it will all end—with her standing beside a grave
I’m not sure if I will ever be able to put into words how it feels when you get to the final book of the series you love so much. You are so excited to dive back into this world for the final time but realizing that it will be the final time is what’s so hard to handle. I have anxiously waited for this finale for so long and I’m so happy to report that it was such an incredible ending. And Bishop managed to wrap up a lot of the plot lines between the characters in a way that was both believable but also perfect for each of them. Once again I love how she is able to give us more about the world of the Others five books in but also leave us with so many questions.

If I’m being very honest, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the specific plot line that overarches this book. It’s so different from everything else that we’ve had in the series and I wasn’t sure how and Bishop was going to go about it. So many of the big plot lines had been answered in Marked in Flesh that I wasn’t sure what the point was for the specific character. However, I found that by the end of the story this plotline was the necessary final hurdle for our characters to get through. So much of the series has been about the concept of evil and I love the fact that in this book, evil comes in a very subtle form. It comes in the form that can mask itself to be something else where people are convinced that it’s a good thing. I’m trying to be as vague as possible as to not spoil the book but I found it to be very convincing.

Again, the characters are my favorite part of this entire series. Obviously, I love the romance between Meg and Simon; I have been rooting for them since book one but they are also not the only characters I care about. Throughout the series, the Others and the humans of this world have really come together to form a family and a community. Watching them come together to handle any new issues that come their way really shows just how much they’ve grown. I especially loved how the dynamics between the Others and the humans also changed in this story as certain

As I mentioned, I loved how Anne Bishop concluded Meg and Simon’s story. They’ve very clearly been in love for a long time and at this point they’re an old married couple. But it was nice to see them have a moment at the end where they can declare their feelings. This is such a slow burn romance but one that I loved so much. I've been invested in their relationship for so long and this is one of the rare moments where I'm satisfied with the ending I got without wanting more.

This series has just been the best and this ending was just wanted I wanted and needed. If you get a chance to give it a go, I would highly recommend it.
